  • Competition Update - Win $150 Even Easier
    By Ryan on November 10, 2008 | 17 Comments17 Comments Comments

Welcome To Smarter Wealth, You can win $150 this month just by commenting on this blog. You can check out details by clicking here

I would like to thank everyone for leaving their helpful comments on my last post 7 Things You MUST NOT Forget To Do When Launching a Product. I have learnt so much from my failures and also from your comments.

I would especially like to thank Jonathan who gave an awesome comment on how to create an award winning (and best selling product. I will definately be taking his advice (maybe for this product, or maybe for future products)

Because I have learnt from my mistakes and learnt that my “Make Money Commenting” product is not so good I have removed it from the list of ways to enter the competition.

Also I have increased the value for sharing about the competition with others. You can now get 100 tickets just for talking about this competition on another blog and linking to it. Too easy.

Hope you all like the new updates and seeing as no one bought the product and wrote a review about them it should make everyone happy for me to change it.

  • Where Have I Been?
    By Ryan on November 5, 2008 | 17 Comments17 Comments Comments

    Hey guys,

I am writing this from thailand as a quick update. I am on my honeymoon with my beautiful wife in thailand and unfortunately I got unlucky and I have been in hospital for the last 4 days. Getting on the internet is hard enough over here, but when you have a drip in your arm at hospital it is even harder.

I got an ear infection about 3 days into the trip. It got so bad that the left side of my face began to swell and my ear canal was so inflamed that it can completely blocked and they couldn’t get the antibiotic ear drops through to my ear. It has been a very bad last 7-10 days.

Sorry to those who want to know the results of the October competition. I did plan to announce them a few days ago but because of the circumstances I wont be posting the results until I get home. So probably about a week. Really sorry about this.

This month’s competition is sure to be awesome and I will answer all questions and emails as soon as I get back in the country. I didn’t realise how hard it would be to continue posting while I am away.

I have some great posts which in mind for this month and I am going to launch something pretty big on Smarter Wealth probably around the 1st of January. Best thing about it is that I will give you hundreds of dollars worth of stuff for FREE!!! and that is to EVERYONE! and then there will also be the chance for a select few to win A LOT of money. So look out for it.

You think this month’s competition is big. Wait for the 1st January….

  • What To Do When You Need a Break/ Go On Holidays
    By Ryan on October 27, 2008 | 9 Comments9 Comments Comments

Now, usually I am not a big fan of writing ‘blogging’ related posts too much on here because this is not a blog about blogging. If you want to read about blogging then go to Pro Blogger.

But I want to share with you a tip a lot of new people do not know and a tip that is so useful if you are a blogger. It is called timestamping and it gives you the ability to program a post to be published at a certain time.

I run the wordpress platform for this blog and it is so easy to timestamp your posts. On the right hand side of your admin area when you are writing a new post you will see an area which says “Publish immediately”. This is located directly above the “Save” and “Publish” buttons.

All you need to do is click the “Edit” button and then you can set the date and the time you want your post to be published.

Personally I am away on my honeymoon, but this post is automatically being published simply by using this technique. It is simple and really effective. You can queue up as many posts as you like.

That way your posts can be posted at the same time everyday so you readers will always know when to look at your blog for new content.

The best thing about this is that before you go away on holidays you can write up an extra post for every day that you are away and have it posted automatically. So your blog will continue to move forward while you are off having sex a good time on your honeymoon.

Hope you enjoyed the tip. If you already knew this, then oh well. If you didn’t then learn this and use it. It is one of the greatest tools wordpress ever invented.

  • Simple Tip: Write Down Your Ideas
    By Ryan on October 25, 2008 | 9 Comments9 Comments Comments

I had an email recently from Sophie one of my readers and she encouraged me to write down and store every idea I ever had because I will never know when it will come in handy.

Personally I thought this was a great idea and I am going to take action and do this.

Whenever I have an idea for a blog post I will always write it down. I have a little notepad on my phone, and seeing as I always have my phone on me I will write them down. Then when I get home I will transfer them onto my writing pad.

For some reason I find storing ideas on actual paper more helpful than storing them on my computer. My creativity flows better this way.

Ok so let me share with you some simple tips for writing down your ideas (which I have said above but will put in point form).

    1. Get a Notepad To Take With You On The Run

This can be virtual (like my phone) or you can buy a small notepad to carry with you and write down ideas. Always have something for writing ideas on because if you don’t write it down you WILL forget it.

    2. Find Somewhere to Store Your Ideas

Like I store my ideas on my notepad you can store you ideas on your computer or on a notepad. I have manilla folders which bigger ideas get stored it. Find a system that works for you so that your ideas are easily accessible.

    3. Come Back and Develop Them Over Time

You don’t have to sit down and tackle your idea from start to finish in one hit. You can develop it over time. Take the posts on this site for example. Often I will just write down the heading for my post in my phone/ on my pad. Then I will go and write the heading plus an intro and some dot points. Then at a later time I will go in and complete the article.

Let time develop your ideas, let them marinate and get better with age.

So make sure you write down every idea you have because you never know which one will make you your first million

  • Let Your Content Do The Marketing For You: How To Become Well Known Part 5
    By Ryan on October 24, 2008 | 8 Comments8 Comments Comments

Often after we have been running our websites for a while we begin to focus so much on marketing that we forget to let the content do the marketing for us. There is so much power in letting the good quality content do the marketing for you.

I must admit that over the last two months I have done exactly this. I have been so focused on growing my blog and marketing it to the world that I completely forgot about my number one marketing resource…my content. Our content has power to attract loads and loads of people to our website and also has the potential to convert these people into sales :-)

You cannot forget that your content will be the thing that people come back for again and again. I was commenting like crazy and even trying some paid marketing yet I forgot that without good content I can bring in as many people as I want but they will just leave.

So I want to talk you guys through what I am going to be doing to let my content do the marketing for me. You can also implement these ideas to let your content do the marketing also.

    1. Write Great Content…Duh

This is the most obvious thing. If you write crap content then no one will read it let alone talk to their friends/readers about it. So write quality content that builds into people’s lives.

    2. Give People a Reason To Come Back

Always, always, always give people a reason to come back. The goal of this series “How To Become Well Known” was to give people a reason to come back and read more. Posting content on a regular basis gives people good reason to come back. If you give them a reason to come back then more often or not they will come back

    3. Give People a Reason To Tell Their Friends

Getting someone over the line from just reading your content and getting them to tell their friends about it can often be a hard task. You really need to strike a cord with your reader. The best way to do it is write content that either makes them laugh (because people will always share funny material) or content that is so good it blows their mind and their friends just need to know about it.

Include quick links for people to Digg, or Stumble, or Bookmark your post. Make it easy for them to tell their friends about.

    4. Write Original Content (Be Different)

Be different. There are so many websites out there which copy and paste content and expect to become rich by doing it. Put in the hard yards and become an engaging writer. Don’t just copy others but create your own style that is different from everyone else. You want to set yourself up as the best in your field and being original is one of the only ways to do this.

    5. Have a Call To Action

Recently many blogs were involved in a thing called “Blog Action Day” where everyone wrote about Poverty. Many blogs did not include a call to action which was upsetting. In your content have a call to action, something that the reader can do to improve their lives or the lives of others. If you get them in action then they are more likely to see results and then more likely to brag about you and your content.

    6. Search Engine Optimization

I almost forgot SEO. This is the main method you can use to let your content do the marketing for you. Optimize it so that people can find it through search engines. You can write an article once and if it goes high in Google Search Engine you can bring in loads of traffic from search engines month after month after month. Currently I get about 1,000 uniques from search engine traffic, which is not loads of traffic but it is continuing to grow.

These are just some ways to let your content do the marketing for you so you don’t have to do the marketing. Do you hve any more do add?

This is the final post in the series “How To Become Well Known”. To go to Part 1 and start again click here

I have built myself a reputation for commenting everywhere and for being one of the first to comment. Jay from SuiteJ.com even wrote an article about it which you can view here. He said this about me:

You might have seen Ryan from Smarter Wealth post on this blog a couple times, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s been on yours. This kid is EVERYWHERE! Any blog that I visit has his avatar in one of the top 3 comment spots of the latest post! He’s the top commenter on about 37 blogs that I visit regularly. I popped on to John Chow’s site the other morning at around 4am. I rarely go there, but I’m subscribed and happened to notice a brand new post in my Google Reader. So, I thought I’d pop over and see what’s up with the ol’ Chowhead and leave a Suite comment. Who do you think hadalready commented on that post? Yup! Ryan needs to write an eBook on “How To Be 37 Places At Once”.

I recently got the chance to read Ryan McLeans newest ebook “Make Money Commenting”. Hes selling it for $7 right now which is a STEAL for the info he gives. Using just one of his techniques I’ve increased the chances of my comment being in the top 10 by 200 percent at least. The ebook is a relativley short one, about 10 pages. It doesn’t have more then 2 pictures (which is great, becuase I HATE it when an ebook is 10 percent content 90 percent pictures), and is an easy read. The thing I like most about this ebook and its subject is you can test it out and see if it works within 2 days of doing it. I tried it out less then 1 hour ago and its already brought in more then my usual traffic. Overall I give the ebook a 8 out of 10. Good job Ryan!

  • The Kick Ass Marketing Strategies For Nubies
    By Ryan on October 8, 2008 | 22 Comments22 Comments Comments

Well as you may know I am a pretty keen commentor but right now there are no new blog posts and I have posted on every one of the 27-30 blogs I am subscribed to. As commenting is my main source of marketing my blog and bringing in new readers I feel frustrated that there are no new posts to comment on. I started thinking to myself “What are some other ways I can build the traffic of my blog other than commenting” and I decided to brainstorm and gather a list of things I could do to market my blog in as many ways as possible.

When starting out blogging as a nubie one of the hardest things is getting traffic to your site. You CANNOT just write posts and think that people are automatically going to find you and link to you and your blog will be a hit in just one month. The internet doesn’t work like that.

You need to market your blog and there are loads and loads of free marketing strategies you can use when starting out which cost you absolutely nothing but time. These strategies can bring in a whole bunch of new traffic to help get the momentum of your website up and running.

So here is a list of things I think you can use for free to market your blog as a nubie:

Subscribe and Comment on More Blogs

Subscribe to other blogs in your niche that are a little bit bigger than you and leave comments on them on a regular basis. I do this for about 50 blogs in my niche and it brings in about 60% of my traffic.

    Comment in Forums

Forums such as digital point or other forums can bring you loads of traffic if you put a link to your website in a catchy signature. I know Jason for The University Kid did this when he was starting out and he would get thousands of visitors a month just from forum posting.

    Write Guest Posts

Write original guest posts for blogs in your niche which are a little bit bigger than you and then enjoy the traffic and the links that come back to your site from that post. Do everything you can to promote that post and you can see hundreds of visitors coming to your site.

    Stumble and Digg Old Articles

Social media sites are some of the best way to get noticed. Write a controversial post and then submit it to social media site. If you hit the front page of digg then you can get over 20,000 new visitors in one day (but make sure your hosting can handle it). A lot of the time you will have loads of articles which you haven’t dugg or stumbled. So go through your archives and tag a few for social media sites. You never know you could get lucky.

    Write a Free Ebook

People love free ebooks and by giving away a free ebook you can collect names and email addresses of people. Then they don’t have to come to your site at all. You can email them. Get a good autoresponder service like Aweber and you can market your products to these people over and over again. Just make a thread in a webmaster forum telling them about your ebook and you will get a few hundred signing up if it is a good ebook.

Get In The Top Commentator Position on Your Favourite Blogs

If you comment regularly on your favourite blogs then a lot of them will have a “Top Commentator” widget in their sidebar (like on this blog). If you get into the top commentator spot then you will get a lot more attention and if you get in the top spot on this blog then you go in the draw to win $50! So start commenting now.

Note: Only do this at the start of the month because they get renewed at the end of each month and if you work your butt off commenting on the last day of the month it will be all for nothing as it will be renewed the next day.

    Create YouTube Videos

YouTube is the worlds most popular video spot where anyone can become famous. Create a youtube video that shows a link to your blog and if it is good you could get an increase in traffic.

    Create a Business Card

This can work really well if you do it properly. Create a business card and have a plug on the back side of it offering the person a free ebook worth $XX for going to a certain link. Give it out to everyone you meet. This might cost you some money though

    Create Flyers

This will also cost a little bit of money but you can create some pretty simple flyers and the just deliver them to people’s letterboxes while you are out on your afternoon run and drive some extra traffic to your site. This works well (cost wise) if you have a product you are selling.

    Write Better Content

Good content is a great marketing technique. If your site has bad content then people will leave. Good content then more people will start. I have about 40% of my traffic staying to read more content on my site which is fairly good I think. Write better, more engaging content and you will attract more people

    Edit Your Popular Posts

If you get a post that is popular in search engines then go back to it and make it even better. Put your keywords in bold or add a few more keywords in. If it has errors then remove them, add some more lines to make it more interesting and then move your way up the search engine rankings. I am about to do this with one of my posts.

Give People an Incentive to Come Back

I run a top commentators competition where you can win $50 in cold hard cash just for being an active contributor to my blog. When starting out people will not want to come back because lets face it your blog is pretty average. So give them another reason to come back and then watch as your site explodes and grows and grows and grows.

Hope these are helpful. I was a bit worried that this post would be too basic. Let me know if it is and I won’t write anymore like this.

  • 5 Must-Haves Above The Fold
    By Ryan on October 7, 2008 | 19 Comments19 Comments Comments

This is a guest post written by Jack from Simple Sapien. If you like this post then check out his site.

When creating a blog or website, it is important to captivate your
readers, right from the start. Placing key elements of your site “above
the fold” will dramatically increase the stickiness of your site. This is
especially true if your intention is to make money online. Here are 5 must
haves above the fold to capture your reader and encourage them to explore
    your site.

    1. Link to your RSS feed and subscription by email

Most of us are familiar with that icon you see everywhere. Make it visible
above the fold so that readers have no question where they need to go to
subscribe to your RSS feed. Along with this, provide a form to subscribe
by email. Readers want options. Give it to them! One thing to note: Only
display your feedburner count if it is 100 or above. People only want to
see that number if it is a large one! Also, keep in mind that there will
be some people viewing your site that are not internet savvy. Provide a
link to a page or post on your site that describes what RSS is, how it
works, how use it, and why the reader would benefit from it.

    2. Small blurb about your site

When people are browsing the internet or clicking links from a blogroll,
they move at an incredibly fast pace. They want interesting information
within seconds, or they are on their way to something else. If the topic
and purpose of your site are not clear within the first few seconds, it
frustrates readers. No one wants to read a 2000 word about section to
figure out what the content is about. Make your purpose clear in your
header, near your navigation, or in your sidebar.

    3. Simple and consistent navigation

I can’t stress enough how important this one is. When creating your main
navigation bar, try to limit your pages to the main ones. A navigation bar
with 30 links is not simple or inviting. Readers want to know what areas
they can explore right when they get to your site. And above all, they
want that dependable navigation bar to follow them throughout the site. If
you don’t, they will get lost, or frustrated and leave your site. Some of
the most common pages in a navigation bar that help users are: Home,
About, Archives, Best Of, and Contact.

    4. Post title

This should always be in complete and plain view right when someone enters
your site. This holds true for single post pages and for your main page.
After all, the end all reason that people are going to your site is for
your content, so make sure it is your main focus! Use a font that is big
enough to stand out and is pleasing to look at. If you include images with
your posts, make sure that is in full view along with the title as well.

    5. Your latest promotion or product

Are you running a contest? Did you just release a new e-book? Did a hot
new product just come out? Make sure your readers know about it by putting
some information above the fold. It does not have to be a lot, just a
small, enticing image with a sentence or two.

When deciding what to put above the fold on your site, think about your
favorite sites. What elements do they have above the fold that really drew
you into their site? Learn from the ones who you admire and who are
    already successful.

Have any other things that you think should be above the fold to captivate
your audience? Post it in the comments section!

  • Staying Passionate During Crisis
    By Ryan on October 3, 2008 | 30 Comments30 Comments Comments

As you guys would have noticed my online presence has pretty much died in the ass lately and for good reason. My family life in in turmoil. Basically my dad is leaving my mum for another woman so as you can imagine this has put a lot of stress on me and my family. So I am pretty sure you can forgive me for not posting regularly seeing as I have had this crisis happen AND I am still planning (and working massive hours) for my wedding which is in 2 and a half weeks.

I am seriously passionate about making money online, and I am seriuosly passionate about helping you guys and running an awesome blog and trust me within a week (if you can give me the grace for another week) then this blog will be up and running like usual (with an awesome post per day). Also my book on how to make money commenting is still coming up really soon (15th October) so be looking forward to that.

I want to talk to you guys about staying passionate even through a crisis and I want to give you some tips that I am using right now to get me through this tough time. You might not need these tips right now but later in life you might need them so listen (or read) up.

    1. Don’t Make Big Decisions in Stressful Times

Making a big decision to change something in stressful times is a bad decision. Often it will be the wrong one. If I was to make the decision to give up trying to make money online (which I have considered) then it would be stupid but my head is not thinking straight. Wait till the stressful time is over and until you can think clearly before making any life altering decisions

    2. Keep Doing What You Are Doing

Just keep trodding along doing what you usually do to give yourself time to think things through and make a good decision. If you are not too emotional to do this then it is a really good idea. I am going to keep prodding along with my blog and pushing it forward and saving for the wedding. Nothing is going to change because crisis hits. I will re-evaluate and then make some changes if need be, but I am not just gong to make big changes I am going to keep doing what I have done before.

    3. Ask People for Help

One of the biggest things that is getting me through this is my fiance Kelly. She is so awesome and is helping me out so much as I have reached out and asked for help. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help because people will come to your aid and help you carry the load. I am asking everyone for help who reads this blog. I need some guest posts for the next week to keep the content flowing. I can’t really offer anything awesome for you but if you could do it as a favour for me then I won’t forget it in the future.

So sorry this blog has sucked the last week and a bit but now I hope you understand why. In just over a week it will be back up and running strong with new content everyday and I will be pushing my online career forward.

Keep my family in your prayers (if you pray) and I’ll try to write as much as I can in this next week

  • Outsourcing Commenting
    By Ryan on September 25, 2008 | 29 Comments29 Comments Comments

I wrote a post recently about how commenting is the number one method for building up your traffic. I am a strong believe of this an currently about 60+% of my traffic comes from comments I have left on other blogs.

Codrut from LazyBlogger recently asked me if I would recommend outsourcing my blog commenting strategy. This means would I pay for someone else to comment for me so that I can get the same amount of traffic but I work less time (because I pay someone to do the hard yards for me).

This is a really interesting question because as you may know I am getting married and going on my honeymoon soon (Oct 23rd is the BIG DAY!) and this means I will be away for about 3 weeks -1 month and though I will have a blog post lined up for every day I am away I will not be able to spend my time commenting other blogs while I am away so I will lose a lot of my momentum.

For this very reason I am actually considering outsourcing commenting for just one month while I am away so that my blog can continue to build it’s momentum. I think by doing this I will take in a loss (it will cost me more than I make) but I am more concerned about the momentum because blogs tend to grow exponentially.

So I cannot write a post about how it is a good or a bad idea because I have never done it before. But I am going to ask if anyone would like to be a commentor for me? You will need to work a short period everyday and comment on around 20-40 blogs when each of them has a new blog post.

I will pay $0.10 for every single comment you do (one comment per new post) and I will pay you $0.50 if your comment lands in the top 3 comments for that blog. So if you get in the top 3 for everything then you can be making $50 for just 100 posts! Talk about an opportunity.

You will start on the 23rd of October and finish around the 21st of November and I expect comments on every single post of the specific blogs I choose.

Comments that land below the top 20 I will only pay $0.05 for. So the quicker you do it the more money you make (and the more exposure for me).

So if anyone is interesting you could make a couple of hundred dollars in a month just by commenting for me then contact me. If not I will go to digitalpoint forums to find someone (but I would much rather reward one of my readers).

So email me using my contact form if you are interested.
