How To Create Amazing Ebook Covers.

As you may know I am soon (October 15th) releasing my first ebook “Make Money Commenting” which will be for sale for just $7. One of the greatest marketing tools you can have when selling an ebook is having a professional looking ebook cover. People do judge a book by it’s cover and the better the cover of your ebook then to more sales you are likely to achieve.
Take a sneak preview at my new “Make Money Commenting” Ebook Cover which I have just made and see what you think.
There are three things you need to make a great ebook cover
1. A Great Title/ Subtitle
This is something you can easily do yourself. I could have created the same ebook and named it “How To Comment Well” or “Why I Comment” but it definitely wouldn’t sell as much. The title of your Ebook needs to stand out and be catchy. People need to want to buy your book. Upon reading this title you know that you can learn how to make money through commenting. Coming up with a great title and subtitle shouldn’t be too hard, just be creative and think “Would I want to buy this book based on the title alone?”.
If the answer is no then keep creating until you get one where the answer is yes.
2. An Amazing Cover Design
Now this is a little harder. Personally me and photoshop don’t go very well together and I would prefer to keep my $500+ dollars it would cost me to buy and learn how to use photoshop. So I outsource my designs to someone who does know how to use photoshop.
I use digital point forums to find my ebook designers. You can get an ebook designed anywhere between $10-$50. You need to be careful though because some of the cheaper ones you don’t get very good quality. Personally I have found a guy who does all my ebook designs who I think is pretty good and he does them for just $20 a cover. If you would like to get one done then send me an email via my contact page and I will pass on his detials.
3. A Fantastic Ebook Creator
You can create ebook covers in photoshop. However this is very difficult for someone who has no idea what do to in photoshop. I don’t want to pay to get my design rendered and turned into an ebook so I use BoxShot3D. This is a fantastic program because
- It is so simple
This is the easiest tool to use in the world. All you do is upload your photos and then it automatically creates the ebook for you. You can rotate your ebook whatever way you want with one click of the mouse (no fiddling in photoshop).- There are so many options
You can create software boxes, hardcover ebooks, softcover ebooks, ebook stacks (books on top of each other), dvd cases, cd cases, magazines and brochures. There are so many options available so you can easily achieve a great result.- It is so cheap
This product only costs around $54, if you purchase it from here, so it is really cheap compared to a lot of the good ebook creators out there. It is a one off payment and you can use it forever and you also get free updates when your program is updated (eg from a 2.1 version to a 2.2 version).- It works on PC and Mac
BoxShot3D works on both PC and Mac which is great for me as I have a Mac and not many other ebook programs work on Mac.So there is a simple list of how to create a good ebook cover, which is something I struggled with for a long period of time. If you want to buy Box Shot 3D then you can download a FREE trial simply by clicking here

You would have thought considering the amount of ebooks I have read or purchased I would know how to make a cover. I didn’t.. and thank you for the post

I’m not trying to be too critical but you could have had a better cover designed if you enlisted someone from a webmaster forum. I know Shannon Lily does them for a small fee.

Thats a beautiful looking ebook cover. But, you could pay someone a quick $5 to design it instead of paying the $54. But if you make or sell a WHOLE lot of ebooks, I guess it could be worth it.

Looks cool except the subtitle is kinda small.. I can’t read it without my eyeglasses, and even with my eyeglasses it’s kinda hard to read..
September 27, 2008 am30 2:05 am
Looks great. Was that you contact, or the box shot 3D. Either way, its a nice job.
@Dave,
The subtitle is actually perfect. The reason it isn’t clearly read is because the image isn’t being squashed properly. The actual image is very large and clear. And by the looks of things the image is being forced into an image box using height and width tags, or probably via a class or something.

This ebook cover looks good considering it was created with a simple software. Personally I think it’s too simple, and the colors of the cover are a little bit boring.

Hey man, your ebook cover looks nice, congratulations.
Although I agree that Photoshop can be hard at first, I found this Photoshop eBook cover actionscript that is really simple to use. It’s free too!
Once you get used to a graphic suite, you’ll probably never change. I personally like the gimp - it’s pretty much an open source version of photoshop. I dunno about anybody else.

Looks nice, although the sub-title and your name are hardly readable in this image. At $54 BoxShot3D sounds good if you have several items you need to create. Otherwise, $20 for one or two covers is obviously less expensive (and no effort required!)

@Jonathan you’re right
I just clicked the image and the big image appeared.. it looks clear :p

Just curious. How long is your ebook?
what are other’s opinions on how many pages long an ebook can/should be?
September 27, 2008 am30 1:43 pm
Hey Ryan, also it seems that your commentluv isn’t working at the moment. Looks like you updated it but something has gone wrong in the theme.

The cover looks fine, but ‘the dollar sign’ doesn’t help.
September 27, 2008 am30 9:42 pm
So did you buy it or use the free trial? Is there any restrictions (eg watermarks) on the trial?
Somehow I just don’t think it is worth buying a program to create a picture of a book. I mean, people don’t really think of ebooks as physical books anyway.
Nah, you haven’t convinced me.
Sean.

can’t wait for the ebook
September 28, 2008 am30 2:50 am
@BM lol I didn’t even notice the dollar sign..
@sean yeah me too.. I think that’s too much for an ebook cover maker..

I’m excited. Ryan is getting busier for his wedding.. XD
October 4, 2008 am30 12:58 pm
This looks formal but the subtitle is too small.. look at your name.. I cannot read it.. because it is small.. but i agree it’s cool.. just a little edit and it is the best

Thanks for the post and tips. I have an ebook cover software, but have only produced one ebook…for a website of mine that I am totally neglecting right now. I will get to it in due time.
Nevertheless, you can never have too many resources in play, so I will book mark that one.
I think ultimately once I am ready for some ebook covers that I will outsource them. Graphic design is just not one of my strong points, so I will let others do it for me.
Never been to digital point, so I will check them out as well for some other stuff. I tend to go to elance out of habit all the time.
