I have decided to set some goals which I can work towards in the next couple of months. I am going to work my ass off to achieve these goals but I believe with some very hard work they are achieveable. I have also created some strategies in order to achieve these goals.

    August 2008
    Unique Visitors: 3,000
    Unique Pageviews: 5,000
    RSS Subscribers: 30
    $$$ Earned: $10

    September 2008
    Unique Visitors: 10,000
    Unique Pageviews: 15,000
    RSS Subscribers: 100+
    $$$ Earned: $100

    Strategies:

    • Comment on multiple (10+) financial posts each day, attempting to be within the first 20 people to comment.
    • Write one quality blog each day (except sundays) which will be over 500 words each. Each of my posts will generate value and benefit my audience. This will be my original content, not taken from another blog.
    • Respond to comments on my blog
    • Do 2 Guest Posts/month on other blogs
    • Include 3 Affiliate Links/Month in each post
    • Digg/Stumble each worthy post (and ask others to do the same)
    • Use SEO Techniques to achieve higher traffic from Search Engines
    • Include a signature onto all of my emails displaying my website
    • Write a Series “Your Best Financial Advice”
    • Use my myspace and facebook to promote my blog
    • Post helpful comments and thread in forums
    • Have my RSS feed a prominent link both in the top of my website and at the bottom of individual posts
    • Run an incredible competition giving away a major prize to drive traffic and RSS subscriptions

If you have any other known strategies which I can use to develop my blog then please let me know in the comments section below.

Original content is the key. When you steal other people’s work word gets around. You don’t want that.

I think the question you’ve got to ask yourself is, what can you provide that other blogs aren’t already doing? It’s not enough to decide to climb on the financial blog cashcow. You have to come up with your own angle otherwise you’re just regurgitating what you’ve read elsewhere. So what can YOU provide from YOUR personal experience?

Finally, the successful blogs out there have a chatty, often funny, informal style which informs while still letting you see a bit of the person behind the posts. Yours doesn’t really do that. Perhaps a writing course would be a good idea?

I wish you luck but if you’re going into this to make money as your first priority rather than to share what you’ve learned with others, I don’t think you’ll reach your goals.

    Hi Ryan,

I think it is absolutely commendable that you have goals set for your site. Some other ideas you make want to consider:

    1. Get on My Blog Log and Blog Catalog - This will help you build a community aspect to your site.
    2. Put a Blogrush widget on your site. This is a widget that contains like subjects to your website. You earn credits based on the number of time the widget appears on your site. Also if people click on your links through the network and your posts become popular you also get listed on trafficjam.com for additional traffic.

Also I would also set more aggressive goals for yourself. You are in a niche that is very competitive but that competition increases what they will pay for exposure.

One last thing add Adsense to your site. If people click off your site you might as well make a little something for your efforts. Right?

    Keep up the great work!
