Do you want to make money from blogging? Then take my advice for when you are starting out

Try to focus on just one blog

When I started blogging in early 2007 I thought that the way to quickly make money from blogging was to have 10 different blogs and try to post on them all. I was wrong. I having multiple blogs when you start out blogging in not a great idea. When I had 10 blogs I posted on each about once per day, and I never had time to really think about how I could improve each of them and make them excell in their field.

It is better to focus up on just one of your blogs and make it really good, then once you have had some experience making money from blogs then you can begin to run a second blog, and a third blog. Some people who blog for a living have multiple blogs, but if you are just starting out I would recommend just having one.

Here are the reasons why focusing on just one blog is a good idea

    1. You Don’t Spread Yourself Too Thinly
Like I did when I started blogging I spread myself too thinly. When you start blogging you only have so much time on your hands and having multiple blogs means your focus is spread between all of them. You simply cannot run all of them and do them well. When you focus on one blog you can go at a steady pace (and not burn out) and you can learn how to make your blog excellent.

    2. Traffic Increases Exponentially Over Time
You will notice with most blogs that traffic increases exponentially over time. So it will start out small but then as it gets bigger it gets bigger quicker. This is due to multiple factors such as your increased level of social bookmarking (because now more people like you and are sharing your blog with the world) and also because you will begin to get more links towards your blog as it becomes more popular, this helps scale you up in google page ranking system and also other systems such as technorati.com

    3. Income Increase Exponentially Over Time
As your traffic increases exponentially so will your income. If you try to make an income from multiple small blogs then you might get enough for a cup of coffee a day but not much more. If you choose to focus on your one blog then you can make a lot more money as time goes on (and then reinvest the money to make even more money).

    4. You Can Create a Great Blog Everyone Will Want to Go To, Not Multiple ‘ok’ Blogs No-one Wants to Visit
Having time to focus on one blog means you can make your one blog incredible. You can pack it full of awesome content and update it regularily so people continue to come back and read it again and again (making you more money each time). You also have the time and focus to see the glitches in your templates and the way you write about the subject. You can also have the time to respond to readers comments and questions which makes your blog more like a community that everyone wants to go to.

    5. You Can Then Use Your One Successful Blog To Help Launch Your Second Blog
Then once you have grown your first blog and made it stand out in it’s field you can use that blog to launch other blogs that you want to write. I know that Leo the author to Zen Habits has used his blog to launch many other blogs/ websites of his.

So in the beginning try to stay focused on just one blog and you will find that your readership (and your income) will increase a lot quicker than if you try to attempt multiple blogs at the same time.
